6 Great Hair styling Tips for Healthy Hair to Start This Year

Make this the year of new beginnings for your hair, commit to look wonderful and feel fabulous. By integrating these six hair styling tips for healthy hair into your routine you’ll feel confident in your look and have great, healthy hair.

1. Do trim often

Long hair can just kind of hang there if you let it get too long. If this sounds familiar, you probably pull back your hair all the time just to get it out of your face.

Commit to maintaining a style that works for you by getting your hair trimmed regularly. This hair styling tip is absolutely necessary because without a proper trim, you might encounter split ends which often causes the hair to shed.

Think every six to eight weeks to trim split ends, lighten up long locks and make your hair easier to style.

2. Do hold the heat treatment

Heat treatments, flat irons, curling irons and blow dryers can really damage your locks. Cut back on your use of heat to keep your hair healthy.

If you can’t cut down on using these items, turn down the dial to a lower temperature and use a heat protector product. Or switch to an ionic hair dryer or ceramic flat or curling iron.

The newer technologies heat uniformly, you won’t have to go over the same portion of hair multiple times. These simple actions will spare your hair from harsh heat that can create dryness and frizziness.

3. Do condition early and often

Conditioners will soften your mane and revitalize hair that is dry and damaged from too much heat or from harsh chemical treatments.

While you should condition in the shower even on days when you don’t plan to wash your hair, try deep conditioning once a week if you’ve got dry, damaged locks or once a month to maintain healthy hair.

4. Do go sulfate free

Sulfates found in shampoos and styling products damage and dry hair. Keep your mane healthy by switching to shampoos and styling products that are labeled as sulfate free.

These tend to contain fewer or no detergents that can zap hair hydration. Remember not to wash your hair every day since that dries it out, too.

5. Don’t OD on styling products

A styling aid is just that, an aid to getting the hair style you want. More is not better when it comes to gels, mousses, pastes and pomades. Follow the directions on the product and apply a dime-or quarter-sized amount.

6. Do be patient and follow these hair styling tips regularly

If you’ve got damaged hair, you may want to do everything you can to nurse it back to health. That’s totally understandable. But be patient while you are rehabbing dry or damaged hair back to health.

It can take a long time to grow out a haircut, to gain the length you wait, restore the shiny in dull hair or tame frizzies. That impatience for things to get better right away can only drag you down.

Start with one or two of these hair styling tips and add in others once you’ve gotten the hang of it. This can seem like a lot to tackle but you will notice a difference once you commit to hair health.
