‘It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.’

— Alan Cohen

Gosh I can hardly believe it’s been almost two years since I started Beauty + Sugar blog. It definitely flew by and you know what they say, time flies by when you’re having fun.

When I came up with the concept of the blog,  I initially wanted a space where I would share my beauty, health and lifestyle lessons while learning from readers as well. My long-term goal was to create a digital third space concept of where women could come by, let their hair down and have honest conversations about topics that frequently affect us. Well you know how things go, or rarely go as planned. Which is perfectly fine. We live in a dynamic world where things are constantly evolving and our ideas are no different.

A new concept eventually blossomed and it was one targeting busy women on the move. My goal was to draft posts that not only provided useful information but catered to the lifestyle of what I refer to as “the blackberry chick rocking the strappy stilettos”. A world which I was all too familiar with myself. However, over time, I found it difficult to keep up with the blog. I felt this pressure to consistently churn out beauty tips and it became less about sharing my story. Any blogger can attest to this, once that pressure kicks in, it takes away the passion and the interest. Without the passion, the blog loses voice and the quality starts to suffer.

I struggled to find things to write about and it was only a matter of time before I completely stopped writing. I decided to take some time to re-evaluate my goals for the blog and what direction I wanted to go. I decided to go back to the beginning and ask myself why did I want to blog in the first place.

In various posts, I’ve written about my struggles with hormonal imbalance and PCOS. I know this is a disorder that women struggle with and it can be frustrating to deal with the many horrible side effects. I’ve gone through severe cystic acne, terrible ingrown hairs, mood swings, and the works. Those struggles are what led me to blogging. I had this urge to share my experiences with other women and hear their stories.

Looking at my blog now, I feel that it gone a totally different direction. I recognize where the pitfalls are and what I need to do to get back on track. I have decided to wipe the slate clean and start afresh. Sometimes change is good and change is necessary.

With that said, I am excited to share that I’ll be rebranding the blog and starting the new venture, Ladies Balance. The blog is all about getting personal, writing from a personal perspective and telling the stories of so many phenomenal women out there. It is also about sharing information to educate women about living healthy, feeling beautiful inside out and dealing with hormonal imbalance.

Dealing with hormonal balance requires a lifestyle overhaul. It requires a healthy diet, reduced stress, regular exercise and addition of nutritional supplements that aid the body in healing. Even for you lucky ladies who are fortunate to have well oiled machines, these activities are just as important to maintain regularity as well as live a healthy, vibrant life.

Oftentimes we focus on treating the symptoms and not the root cause. The problem with this is that it is a temporary fix because the underlying problem still exists. It’s like a car with major engine problems. Throwing a paint of coat and making it shiny and brand new will not fix the fact that the car could give away any time soon and possibly leave you stranded.

A lot of issues like acne, hair loss, depression or anxiety and low energy can be traced to an internal imbalance. While it is important to wear the cover up and put the hair extensions in, it is also important to aim for a lifestyle that makes it easier to solve the underlying issues that may be causing our beauty concerns. Unfortunately there is not a magic pill to make all these issues go away, it requires a dedication to a healthy lifestyle.

I am very excited to be starting this journey.

Lots of love,

Belle O.
